Flag Day Ceremony
Annually, on June 14th, we honor our flag, reflect on the true meaning of Flag Day and consider what it represents to our nation. This community event is a collaboration among the West Barnstable Fire Department, Meetinghouse Farm, and the West Barnstable Civic Association. We are grateful to Chief Maruca, Judy Desrochers, Steve Wallace who has been the warden of the Flag Pole at the Village Green for many years, our Town Counselor Kris Clark, trumpeter Paul Shoemaker who plays taps, Heather Jatczak and Girl Scout Troop # 65193 who sing the National Anthem, Officers Ken Shaffer and Jeff Perry from the Sheriff’s Department Color Guard, many people who have helped to organize this event, most especially Kris Clark. Everyone is encouraged to bring worn American flags for proper retirement. The West Barnstable Fire Department will also accept worn flags in advance, if people are unable to attend the ceremony.
