West Barnstable Shooting Range
Conservation Committee Hearing

ConCom will hold a public hearing at its March 4th, 2008  April 15th, 2008 meeting on its intention to phase out
Institutional use (other than BPD, BPD joint exercises) by January 2011.

We will be inviting Institutional users to attend.
A large turnout from the Village is not expected as ConCom's intentions align with local sentiment.
No other range matters (master plan) will be discussed.

Specific conversations to date include the following discussions and endorsements:

The West Barnstable Civic Association voted to approve the first three phases of the proposed expansion and are strongly opposed to Phase 4- second rifle range. Also that parking be limited to 50 vehicles max on site- 30 in the current spot and 20 at the beginning of the new rifle range.  Additional sound buffering should be included wherever possible around the range.

Hours-
Mon - Fri.
start at 8:00 AM and end at the sooner of: 1/2 hour before sunset or 6:00 PM.

Sat. & Holidays start at 8:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM.

Sun.start at 10:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM.

Institutional use is banned except for the Barnstable Police Department. That would reduce excessive activity and noise while freeing-up 28 days of use for residents.  There is ample availability & space at the Otis/USCG range to accommodate foreign institutional use.

Automatic Weapons are banned except for BPD use, but in no event will there be use on Sundays.

Signageincrease presence of warning signs throughout the range area and along the Service Road.
