Sandy Neck Beach 2006

This year's event is Saturday, September 20th.
Registration begins at 9:30am near the bath house.
There is NO rain date.

Coastsweep 2007 on Sandy Neck Beach happened
Saturday, September 22nd, 2007.

Here's the PHOTOS!

Once again, "John's Dogs" provided the mobile kitchen with coffee, tea and pastries during registration
and a tasty cookout menu for participants turning in a Survey Card.

The update and 'trash tally' will be posted very soon.

Look over the "2006 Wrap-up" section below to find out what this is all about.
It's actually a fun, easy, day at the beach.

NO RAIN DATE was needed!

The 2006 'Wrap-up'

Thank you to the many people who participated in last year's
CoastSweep2006 at Sandy Neck Beach!

Your group photo is ready and there's more below.
Our final statistics are now available.

With the help of the excellent SNB Staff, our volunteers covered this essential barrier beach and estuary from Trail 2 to the "Point" and from the boundary of the Public Swimming area towards and into East Sandwich.

Debris items collected ranged from a hinged section of a dock to a doll's shirt that read "Mellow Yellow" -- various items that, no doubt, had special meaning to those who had lost them to the elements of the wind and tide.

As event coordinator, I send my special thanks to the hard working, dedicated and ever resilient members of the AmeriCorps' Bourne House.  Their enthusiasm this year (and in years past) make this event a joy to organize.

Members of the Sandy Neck Advisory Board and Conservation Commission pitched in with vehicles and hard work, too.  They were inspired by the turnout for this event and the love for this jewel of Cape Cod Bay.

And, speaking of lovers of Sandy Neck, my heartfelt thanks to the volunteers from our own Community that came out on a cool and potentially rainy day (ok, there were a few showers) to do their part to keep this fragile ecosystem unadulterated by the waste of others.

John Jenkins and Fay Kennefick stepped up to volunteer their time and talent to make the cleanup a festive event.  After morning coffee and breakfast treats, all volunteers were served cheeseburgers, veggie burgers (I'll have more next year), hot dogs, drinks and all the fixin's through the generosity of "John's Dogs".  John volunteered his mobile (and well outfitted) kitchen to serve those who serve the beach. My thanks to you, JP, for 'saving my bacon' once again!

On behalf of the West Barnstable Civic Association, sponsor of Sandy Neck CoastSweep2006, I thank you all for your participation and dedication to a place that many will not think about until it is Summer 2007.  With your help, and a bit of luck, we'll have another successful event in September 2007.  Bring your friends; once again, there will be plenty of food and music along with the debris!

Gratefully,
Will Plikaitis, Event Coordinator
Vice President, West Barnstable Civic Association
